Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?

Not only is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy, it is very beneficial as well.
1. Getting adjusted during your pregnancy will help maintain a healthier pregnancy, it will reduce back pains, help control nausea, and most importantly shift your pelvis into alignment as your body prepares for labor.
2. When your pelvis is out of alignment it can restrict the amount of space available for your developing baby. Regular visits to a chiropractor can help with these all these issues, about 75% of pregnant women report pain relief after getting frequent adjustments.

A routine with chiropractic care will help manage pain in your back, hips, joints, and will establish pelvic balance. When your pelvis is aligned correctly it will provide your baby with all the space needed and may lead to a faster and easier delivery. One of the main techniques used for pregnant women is the Webster adjustment. This technique is a specific sacral adjustment to help ease the mothers pelvic alignment and nerve system. It is extremely gentle and safe and uses no direct external force on the baby. Come in for a FREE consultation with the doctor to have a healthier and easier pregnancy!

5 Ways You Can Relieve Your Neck Pain And Back Pain

1. FOLLOWING AN ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DIET. You are what you eat. Since everyone is different, there isn't a single anti inflammatory diet for everyone. Try to include a diet full of turmeric, ginger, and boswellia.  Turmeric ginger tea is one of my favorites. When an anti-inflammatory diet is done successfully, it will relieve neck and back pain.

2. GOOD POSTURE HABITS. It is important to practice good posture habits to prevent neck or back pain.  Good posture reduces stress on the spine. One of the biggest culprits of bad posture is sitting at the computer or on the phone. Prolonged sitting is considered “the new smoking”.  It has been shown to shorten people's life span.

3. EXERCISING. Back pain and neck pain can occur from living a sedentary lifestyle.  I always encourage my patients to stay active and keep the spine moving! Spinal joints that make up the back and neck like other joints require movement to heal.

4. MEDITATE. By simply being stressed out, muscle tension, misalignment, and nerve irritation can occur. Leading to neck and back pain. Find a meditation technique you like and do it for at least 15 minutes per day, ideally in the morning. Guided meditations can be found online to help you to relax.

5. GETTING A CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT. Yes it's true, even chiropractors need an adjustment sometimes. Chiropractic is essential to a healthy body and has been proven to alleviate back pain and neck pain. Poor alignment of the back and neck puts pressure on nerves and cause muscles to spasm.

The Silent Killer; Forward Head Posture

The effects of bad posture to your overall health are paramount. “Posture affects and moderates every physiologic function from breathing to hormonal production. Spinal pain, headache, mood, blood pressure, pulse and lung capacity are among functions most easily influenced by posture.  The most common posture problem is forward head posture.” (American Journal of Physical Medicine 1994;4:36-39).  Since we live in a world that revolves around computers, televisions, and video games forward head posture is becoming more and more prevalent.  Ideally the head should sit directly on the shoulders and neck.  When the head starts to come forward, out of alignment, it puts strain on your neck and upper back muscles.  Over time forward head posture can lead to tension headaches, disc herniation, pinched nerves, and arthritis. Here are some solutions to help you change your forward head posture problem.

1. The first step is to determine where and when throughout your day you are exposed to prolong forward head posture. The most common places forward head posture occurs are; while on a computer, playing video games, and while driving.  Next you should actively work towards taking steps to fix this problem.  See our previous post on !!!!!!!!!!

2. Every half hour set a reminder on your phone to sit up straight, pull your head back over your shoulders and hold for 3-5 seconds and do 12-15 reps.

3. When you are sitting for a prolonged period of time, always use a lower back support pillow.  By taking pressure off of your lower back, your head will naturally move back over the shoulders.

4. Set up a consultation with a chiropractor. The chiropractor will determine the severity of your forward head posture.  You and your chiropractor will develop a personal care plan.
